Lifebelts on the Tyne railings along the Quayside and St. Peter's riverfront are regularly being removed.

The callous actions of those behind these removals are putting lives at risk. Over recent months there have been reports of people falling into the Tyne. The provision of the lifebelts might be the difference between life and death by drowning.

Newcastle City Council each year replaces approximately 100 missing lifebelts along the riverfront at a cost of £50 each.

People removing the lifebelts are committing criminal offences and putting lives at risk.  Should you ever see anyone removing the lifebelts then please report the incident by calling Northumbria Police 101.
