FREE Digital Skills Support

Get Online Newcastle is a partnership between Newcastle City Council and Your Homes Newcastle. It is committed to supporting people to get online and equipping them with valuable digital skills. The partnership is delighted to announce that classes will resume in September 2021. Have a look at the courses below and choose the one that suits you best and book your place here. 

You need an email address to book your place, but don’t worry if you don’t have one, just use email address: getonline@newcastle.gov.uk for now. Get online will get your booking confirmation email and post your ticket out to you. If you can’t book online yourself, please call 0191 277 4100 or ask a member of staff at your local library or housing hub and they can do it for you. You MUST live in Newcastle to apply for a place on these courses.

Online Basics 

These courses and one to one volunteer support give you the confidence get online for the first time and to learn basic digital skills in an informal setting.   

You'll be shown how you to use a computer, send an email, search the internet, and attach photos and your CV to emails. 

It's a 2-part course, available all year round, delivered at City Library 

Introduction to Office, Word, Excel & PowerPoint 

You'll learn essential tasks including how to cut, copy and paste, sort a spreadsheet and insert a picture into a document.  

There are 4 sessions to attend in total and we deliver it all year round at City Library.  

You will have the option to take a City & Guilds qualification in session 4. 

Techy Tea Party 

Bring along your own device – laptop, smart phone, tablet or iPad. And find out how to complete your basic settings, secure your device and download and navigate apps.

Free, flexible training to help residents start their own business 

Residents who are interested in starting their own business can access free training to turn their ideas into a reality.  

Learn Smarta is run by Tyneside-based entrepreneurship organisation Transmit Startups.  They have helped 10,000 UK people to get started in business. The ‘fundamentals’ course offers fast, flexible online training to provide all the business basics in just six weeks.  

It’s a perfect way for residents to discover everything they need to become the boss. From testing the water with market research, to developing a business plan and applying for funding. 

Participants will gain real-world business smarts from entrepreneurial experts.  Interaction includes interactive live learning sessions, 1-2-1 tutorials, group classes, and lifelong access to recordings and worksheets.
