When peace was declared in 1918 the Prime Minister promised to make Britain a country fit for heroes with a nationally funded programme of house building.
A year later the Addison Act saw the birth of council housing and Newcastle City Council wants your help to celebrate the centenary.
As part of a series of events and activities that will begin on 31 July we want to hear about your experience of council housing.
Did you grow up in a council house? Was your family one of the first to move into the iconic Byker Wall?
Do you know someone who bought their council house through Right to Buy?
We’re also looking for images of council homes in Newcastle and donations of Lego to use in the exhibition. If you or someone you know has a story to tell or is able to donate photographs or that all important Lego then please email
